draw; iris

I drew a lot of selfies and portraits during Illustration 1, and Iris Apfel is one of my absolute favourite subjects with totally justified reasons.

If you don’t know about Iris, please do yourself a favour and watch the documentary about her. It’s on Netflix and the internet in general, and will improve your life.

There’s a very long list of women whose lives I would like to model my own after, and Iris is one of them. Among others, that list also includes Lee Lin Chin, Awkwafina (aka Nora Lum), princessgollum (aka Josephine Pearl Lee) and Jenny Kee.

I’ve been thinking about doing a series of prints with portraits of each of those women. We’ll see how that goes.

Gouache is an absolute delight to paint with. Sadly, my scanner totally butchers the colours and I’m still yet to figure out how to adjust my settings so that it scans my colours the way I see them in real life, so y’all get to blind yourselves with these instead which is still just as fun.

Combining ink, watercolour and gouache is going to become one of my favourite ways to work, I can tell. I’ve also realised my taste in colour palette is exclusively 80s windbreakers and pastels. This is still an improvement on my monochrome with red and gold trimmings.

Still in Europe so this is it for now,

Annie.
